"Mimosa NearPoint allows us to archive email for compliance for all employees without requiring Exchange journaling… Using NearPoint's Mailbox Extension feature…we have initially reduced overall storage of our production Exchange server by 25 percent."
— Chris Formes, IT Manager, Brookfield Homes
Unstructured content is growing fast. According to ESG, email storage is growing at an astounding 73% per year, while storage for free-range files is growing at 55% per year.

Using Mimosa NearPoint™, administrators can allow users near-infinite mailbox capacity while eliminating the need for mailbox quotas on Exchange Server. Mailbox Extension, a feature of NearPoint that can be optionally deployed, moves weighty attachment files to NearPoint allowing more message content to be stored on Exchange. Administrators define policies that automatically extend mailboxes on Exchange Server to the NearPoint Server, and for messages to be moved using parameters such as message size and age and aggregate mailbox size. These policies allow Mimosa to replace messages within those established criteria with a stub file that points to the copy of the message residing on the NearPoint server. Using Mailbox Extension, administrators can reduce the overall size of Exchange storage by up to 90%. Messages that have been extended appear in user folders as normal messages. Users have completely seamless access to migrated messages. They double-click on an extended message header to view the message. Operations such as forward, delete, reply, and move perform as they would with local message copies. Mimosa provides transparent access to migrated messages, while allowing corporations to control storage growth on production Exchange Servers.
Managing existing PST data is a challenge for the number of PST files that exist and the total amount of data they contain. Because PSTs are generally located on local desktops and network file servers, they can be difficult and expensive to access and manage. The majority of desktops are not protected which creates the risk of losing the valuable business information they contain. For managing PST data, the Mimosa NearPoint PST Archiving Option allows .PST files to be uploaded into the NearPoint archive and associated with end-user mailboxes using advanced heuristics.
The upload process is user controlled and accessible via NearPoint Self-Service Access in Outlook and the NearPoint Administrative Console. Once the files are loaded into the NearPoint archive, all message data can be managed by existing retention and disposition policies, and quickly searched through by auditors for legal discovery. It is also seamlessly accessible to all business end users. With NearPoint .PST Archiving Option, Administrators can eliminate the need to create .PST files all together, while providing users with better, faster access to all email data.

With NearPoint for File System Archiving (FSA), administrators can easily set policy to scan file shares and capture files based on archiving policies. Captured files are indexed and archived and then NearPoint FSA de-duplicates across multiple file shares, as well as across messages and attachments, for global single-instancing across content sources. Thus, NearPoint FSA enables retention/disposition policies of targeted files, and enables search and eDiscovery of files in the corporate environment.
Optionally, files on file shares can be extended by replacing the files with small stub files, so end-users still continue to seamlessly access the files as normal. Extension policies on files are based on such attributes as type, size, and age. NearPoint utilizes advanced stubbing technology to optimize the use of network resources and storage during stub file operation, resulting in significant reduction in expensive production storage.
Mimosa NearPoint™ provides a holistic solution to managing SharePoint data with integrated archiving, recovery, and eDiscovery while maintaining seamless end-user access to content. Mimosa NearPoint for SharePoint brings an advanced single-instance methodology to eliminate redundant copies of document across SharePoint farms, site collections and sites to lower overall storage costs. Additionally, block-level versioning ensures only the specific changes to the content are saved in the archive further lowering storage cost when compared to SharePoint document libraries that stores full copies of each version, while still maintaining an ability for the end-user to recall any previous version from the archive.
