DOT FOODS SAFEGUARDS CRITICAL EMAIL information
WITH MIMOSA NEARPOINT AND nEARPOINT DISASTER RECOVERY OPTION
Leading U.S. Foodservice Redistribution Provider Deploys Mimosa NearPoint and NearPoint Disaster Recovery Option to Simplify and Automate Email Archiving and Disaster Recovery
Santa Clara, Calif. – August 22, 2006 – Mimosa Systems™, a leader in unified information management solutions for enterprise content, today announced that Dot Foods, the nation’s leading foodservice redistributor, has selected Mimosa NearPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server to archive, manage and recover critical Exchange information for its eight locations across the U.S. Faced with managing exponential email storage growth of more than 100 percent per year, Dot Foods selected Mimosa NearPoint, including the NearPoint Disaster Recovery Option, because it unifies Exchange recovery, archiving and storage optimization into a single easy to use solution, without imposing intrusive agents or kernel driver software on its business-critical Exchange servers.
Dot Foods redistributes more than 57,000 dry, frozen and refrigerated products from America’s top food manufactures to local distributors in all 50 states. Timeliness and responsiveness are vital aspects of Dot Foods’ business, and email is at the center of its customer and vendor communication. The company has integrated a fax and imaging system into its Exchange environment to send and receive signed contracts and delivery receipts. As a result, Dot Foods sees an average Exchange database growth of 66MB per day from its 2,500 employees. The risk of data corruption and even significant Exchange downtime was growing every hour as our Exchange storage grew. Disaster recovery and storage management quickly became critical requirements to maintain availability for Dot Foods’ business critical Exchange environment.
“Email is a core business application for Dot Foods. Until we deployed Mimosa NearPoint, we relied on aggressive mailbox quotas and the use of PST files to reduce the dramatic increase in Exchange server storage,” said Eric Ellerman, network manager, Dot Foods. “In reality, however, this approach just shuffled the data from Exchange to potentially more expensive end-user computer systems. In addition, PST files face data corruption issues, and placed email information out of IT’s control. Mimosa NearPoint has provided a way to retain total control over all email data, and protect against significant data loss in the event of a disaster.”
Dot Foods selected Mimosa NearPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server including the NearPoint Disaster Recovery Option because it offered the following key features:
- Automated, application intelligent disaster recovery : The Mimosa NearPoint Disaster Recovery Option reliably protects Exchange information through non-invasive, continuous application shadowing, preserving the consistency and integrity of Exchange data, and enabling “one-click” full email data and service recovery.
- PST file elimination: The NearPoint PST Archiving Option eliminates the need for PST files by uploading the contents of existing PST files directly into the NearPoint archive, where they can be protected and more easily accessed by users anytime.
- Intuitive user self-service search and restore : Mimosa NearPoint increases end user productivity through intuitive self-service search and restore functionality that gives users instant access to emails that have been archived.
“With Mimosa NearPoint’s Disaster Recovery Option our IT staff has the peace of mind knowing that critical business information is protected and well managed,” said Ellerman. “Mimosa NearPoint’s recovery capability was recently tested when a user accidentally deleted an entire Outlook mailbox. With just one click, we immediately restored the mailbox to Exchange with no lost data. We now feel confident that if a disaster does strikes, no matter how big or small, we are entirely prepared for a complete and speedy restoration of email service for our 2,500 employees.”
