MANTECA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CHOOSES MIMOSA CONTENT ARCHIVING SOLUTION FOR RAPID INFORMATION DISCOVERY, RETENTION, PROTECTION AND RECOVERY

PST Archiving Feature Proves Invaluable to Enterprise-size School System

Santa Clara, Calif .– July 1, 2008 – Mimosa Systems, a leader in live content archiving solutions, today announced that the Manteca Unified School District is set to deploy the next-generation Mimosa NearPoint™ content archiving solution for rapid information discovery, retention, protection and recovery of its vital email data.

Located in southern San Joaquin County, California and formed in 1966, the Manteca Unified District currently serves more than 23,000 students. The District spans 113 square miles and comprises four municipalities: Stockton, Lathrop, Manteca and French Camp.

In order to deal with growth and the increasing complexity of a large, 21 st century educational system, district administrators recently installed a SAN (Storage Area Network) from EMC Corporation, and wanted a next-generation email archiving solution that would optimize storage used for the archive. As part of the SAN implementation, Manteca is migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. The district is also seeking to decrease overhead on its Exchange servers by moving all email to a centrally stored archive.

Mimosa NearPoint Helps District Manage PST Files
PST (Personal Storage Table) files are used with personal folders to store local copies of messages, calendar events and other items within Microsoft Exchange. Never designed to store large volumes of data, PST files can quickly become out of control if there is no system for moving and storing email in a central archive. Large PST files can lead to poor network performance, increased storage requirements, file corruption and, inevitably, lost data.

“The Information Technology Department needed to gain control of the PST files throughout the District,” said Colby Clark, System Administration Supervisor for Manteca Unified School District. “The PST files had become too large and were eroding system performance. It was important to us that NearPoint provided the ability to archive content stored in these files. PST files will now be “ingested” and stored in a central archive enhancing the availability of this information when required. As a public educational system—subject to a range of regulations—we can't afford the risk of losing information stored on our systems.”

Key Mimosa NearPoint features that were particularly important to the Manteca School District include:
