Litigation Expert to Provide Proactive Strategies to Curb Costs for Corporate Governance and Enterprise Risk Management
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Oct. 17, 2007 - Mimosa Systems™, a leader in live content archiving solutions, today announced it will host a half-day educational seminar, Best Practices for Email Retention and eDiscovery, in Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The seminar will provide practical advice on the creation and deployment of email retention policies for corporate governance and eDiscovery support. The event will be held from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Microsoft offices located at 3025 Highland Pkwy., Suite 300, Downers Grove IL.
Best Practices for Email Retention and eDiscovery will feature Kevin Nelson, an associate in Lord, Bissell & Brook LLP's Intellectual Property and Business Technology practice groups. Kevin has extensive experience in all pre-trial, trial, and post-trial phases of federal court litigation. He has also lectured extensively on various topics including document retention and eDiscovery issues in federal litigation. As a litigator in Lord, Bissell & Brook's business litigation practice group, Kevin will share best practices and case studies for email retention and regulatory compliance.
"Email, now more than ever, poses significant challenges to IT and legal departments when it comes to eDiscovery," said Bill Tolson, director of compliance and legal solutions marketing at Mimosa Systems and a featured speaker at the event. "According to the analyst firm ESG, over 90 percent of organizations with over 20,000 employees have experienced an eDiscovery event involving email in the last year. By understanding the details of an organization's electronic information, IT and corporate counsel can assess the risk associated with electronic files in order to ensure compliance and proactively protect the company from future litigation."
According to the April 20, 2007 Gartner report, Cost of E-Discovery Threatens to Skew Justice System, "The use of technology, especially e-mail and the Internet, has changed the legal discovery environment. Most organizations do not have the systems and policies in place to deal effectively with e-discovery." In addition to developing a document retention policy that supports the company's needs and has the ability to destroy information when it's no longer needed, Gartner recommends that organizations "use technology to automate whenever and wherever possible regarding document retention and management."
