Mimosa Systems Releases Disaster Recovery Solution for Microsoft Exchange
Mimosa Chooses Double-Take from NSI to Offer NearPoint Disaster Recovery Option Enabling Local and Remote Disk-Based Replication
Santa Clara, Calif. – August 8, 2005 – Mimosa Systems™, Inc., today announced the release of a Disaster Recovery Option for its NearPoint™ for Microsoft® Exchange Server data management solution. The new option supports Double-Take ® from NSI ® Software, offering NearPoint users local and remote recovery of Exchange and NearPoint data in the event of a disaster. This new solution combines Mimosa’s next generation e-mail recovery, archiving and storage management capabilities with replication and mirroring capabilities from NSI.
With the new Disaster Recovery Option, NearPoint protects and archives Exchange data while Double-Take ensures continuous data protection and application availability on the Near Point server. The combination of NearPoint and Double-Take addresses Exchange server and database failures with immediate Exchange recovery from catastrophic disasters.
“The addition of replication makes Mimosa extremely attractive to enterprises considering a true full lifecycle Exchange data management solution," said Brad O’Neill, Senior Analyst at Taneja Group. “Because of this integration between Mimosa NearPoint and Double-Take, I feel comfortable telling any IT executives they have a great option for application-intelligent disaster continuity for enterprise email systems.”
Mimosa NearPoint addresses critical customer requirements around e-mail recovery, storage optimization, legal discovery and regulatory compliance. A comprehensive solution for e-mail data management, Mimosa NearPoint provides immediate mailbox and message recovery, disaster recovery, e-mail archiving and self-service search and access in one solution. By leveraging cost-effective storage, NearPoint also optimizes e-mail storage and reduces overall infrastructure costs.
The Disaster Recovery Option provides two methods of improved recoverability of e-mail and archived data - Disaster Protection and Disaster Recovery.
- Disaster Protection: Double-Take continuously replicates NearPoint data to a target local or remote server. In the event of a disk failure, rapid recovery of NearPoint is achieved by restoring the data from the target server to the NearPoint server. Since this is done at disk-to-disk speeds, the recovery time is dramatically reduced. The combination of Mimosa NearPoint’s near real-time application shadowing with Double-Take enables the recovery point to be the last moment before the disaster occurred, thus minimizing any data loss.
- Disaster Recovery: Double-Take replicates NearPoint data to a remote NearPoint server. In the event of a site failure, Exchange data from the NearPoint server is recovered to the last point before the disaster and e-mail service is rapidly returned for users. In addition, if the NearPoint server is also unavailable, the remote server is immediately promoted to become the primary NearPoint server. This not only allows users and auditors immediate access to self-service search and discovery processes, it also provides continuous Exchange data protection.
“We have partnered with Mimosa Systems to address customer needs around application and content lifecycle management,” said Dean Goodermote, CEO NSI Software, Inc. “By combining Double-Take’s continuous protection with NearPoint’s continuous application shadowing technology, customers get a comprehensive disaster recovery solution designed specifically for the Microsoft Exchange environment.”
“Enterprises are looking for higher levels of disaster protection and recovery for e-mail systems, the lifeblood of virtually every business process. Recent compliance regulations have elevated the urgency to provide catastrophic protection of archived email data,” said T.M. Ravi, President and CEO, Mimosa Systems, Inc . “Mimosa recognizes the critical nature of this requirement. By partnering with NSI, the leader in data replication and application availability, we can deliver an integrated solution for disaster continuity of mission critical email environments.”
