Sr Architect – Archiving & Database Systems

Role:
This individual will serve as the hands-on lead of a small and high-powered technical team that is responsible for the archiving and database systems and the data and metadata management infrastructure of the Mimosa enterprise class software solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the architecture, design, development, integration, delivery and evolution of the archiving subsystem and the overall database infrastructure of the Mimosa products
  • Work closely with product management, customer support, other engineering teams and SQA to continuously evolve and improve the enterprise class data management and metadata management software and system infrastructure of the Mimosa products
  • Maintain efficient and effective communication and collaboration with other engineering teams and SQA to manage dependencies and deliverables between various groups and to ensure end to end integration and quality
  • Ensure robust, safe, securely accessible, highly available and highly scalable data and metadata management infrastructure meets or exceeds customer and end-user expectations
  • Technical co-ordination of offshore and onshore development and SQA teams
  • Participate in the problem resolution triages within engineering and for escalated customer cases on a regular basis

Professional Background – Required:

  • It is imperative to have deep and current skills in Microsoft C++ and C#.
  • Very deep knowledge of Win32 and CLR programming and a deep understanding of the implementation and performance characteristics of the underlying Windows platform.
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-threading and synchronization and the ability to implement and debug lock-free MP-safe code.
  • Very deep experience with distributed computing and the ability to design, implement and debug implementations that use remoting, web services, and MPI.
  • Understanding of the Windows I/O stack and the ability to implement high-performance asynchronous I/O that can maximize throughput and hardware utilization.
  • Understanding of advanced techniques for writing and tuning for highest performance such as time-based and frequency-based profiling, and the utilization of profile-guided optimizations.
  • Deep knowledge of high-performance C++/C# database programming using mechanisms such as ADO and ADO.NET and the ability to isolate and optimize performance bottlenecks.
  • Significant experience with highly scalable and high performance databases, including SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 and Oracle, with extensive schema design and SQL programming experience
  • Significant experience with variety of data import, export and transformation techniques, including vendor specific techniques such as DTS, commercially available ETL tools, XML and web services based techniques, and custom developed techniques
  • Deep experience with developing highly scalable and high performance OLTP and OLAP systems
  • Deep experience with indexing, table and index partitioning, clustering, query and insert/update optimization and locking control techniques
  • Experience with XML and .NET integration with databases
  • Experience with database reporting and analysis services
  • Experience with database security
  • Experience with database replication and high availability
  • Significant experience with database deployment planning and performance tuning for large customer installations
  • Significant experience with high throughput and high capacity and extremely scalable data and metadata management systems managing many terabytes of data
  • Significant experience delivering enterprise class solutions in one or more of the following areas – enterprise messaging, workflow and collaboration, document management, enterprise content management, or enterprise data management
  • Strong understanding of robustness, usability, scalability and performance
  • Some startup background or from a company with aggressive “small company” culture
  • Experience leading a team of 5+ senior developers
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience

Professional Background – Desirable:

  • Experience with storage management, availability, clustering, backup/recovery, and replication technologies
  • Experience with policy based content classification and categorization
  • Experience with records management
  • Experience with implementing solutions for regulatory compliance
  • Experience with data security, encryption and access control mechanisms
  • Experience with manageability, monitoring and diagnostics
