Stuck on an another archiving platform and want to move?
Archiving software has been around for a decade now and eventually organizations will start to question if the product they initially deployed is still offering them value or if there are better solutions out there that match their requirements better. After the decision has been made to pick a better archiving solution the obvious question arises on how to get the data out of the current existing system and into the new system.
There are a few options that you can follow in this case scenario. One of the options that some organizations deploy is to deploy the new solution and start capturing content point forward without migrating content from the old solution. The old solution would be kept around with the data it has and after all data has been automatically been purged out according to retention settings the system will be phased out. Its the easiest solution, but requires twice the system maintenance, extra storage and in case of eDiscovery duplicate search efforts.
The second option would be migrating the content from one system to the other using ‘native tools’. Almost all archiving products allow you to export the content to PST files and then you can import the PST files into the new system. This process will require a lot of manual work, a lot of time and has a high risk of errors.
The third option would be using ‘archiving migration software’. Mimosa Systems partners with vendors like this and Procedo and Transvault can customers have an ideal opportunity to seamlessly migrate to Mimosa’s next-generation NearPoint platform in a manner which is both cost effective and protective of the company’s existing archived content.
