It is of my opinion that there are almost zero reasons to legitimately have PST files in a corporate environment and I have been speaking on this topic a few times in the past.  Many people underestimate how bad the problem / infestiation of PST files is in their organization and its erradication can be a long and tricky process actually unless you have adequate tools available for you like Iron Mountain NearPoint and its PST Archiving Option.  On August 10th I will present the latest on how to plan to get rid of PST files.  Learn everything that you need to know about how to tackle such a project.  You can register for the webinar here.

Earlier this week EMC announced SourceOne, which is positioned as the replacement for its aging email archiving product EmailXtender.  For customers considering this software it is important to understand that this is an brand new product that is unproven and offers limited functionality that customers demand and expect in an enterprise class archiving product in this time and day.

SourceOne offers no:

In Part 1 I discussed where PST files came from and went over the history of the PST files.  In the next few parts I will try to go over some of the technological problems that PST files bring for an organization and the legal problems that PST files cause.

Last week I gave a webinar on PST file consolidation.  Most people are aware of what PST files are as we all have been using them daily since we started to use Exchange and Outlook (or the Exchange Client in the earlier versions of Exchange).   This is the first post in a series that will discuss the history of PST files, the risks of PST files and how to get rid of them from your organization.
