The acquisition of Mimosa Systems by Iron Mountain last February was a big piece of the puzzle in Iron Mountains’ digital strategy – dubbed Digital 2.0. This acquisition also brought changes for me personally. In my new role at Iron Mountain I am going to focus on evangelizing the Digital 2.0 vision and product set, a task that I’m both exited about and also don’t underestimate. For quite a few people, Iron Mountain is the company that moves those boxes in trucks they see driving around. You see them in New York, London and Amsterdam, etc. For many though, it has largely gone unnoticed that Iron Mountain has been building up a major set of digital offerings for customers, from online backup of PCs and Servers to digital archiving and even technology escrow management.

In Melendres v. Arpaio, CV-07-2513-PHX (D. Ariz. February 11, 2010) (UNPUBLISHED), U.S. District Court Judge G. Murray Snow granted plaintiffs’ motion for sanctions and ruled that the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (“MCSO”) failed to issue a timely litigation hold resulting in the destruction of relevant documents, including e-mails.
In discovery, plaintiffs learned the MCSO shredded relevant documents (i.e., stat sheets) and deleted e-mails. In addition, not a single deponent was aware of their obligation to preserve evidence.

Last week I spoke at the Microsoft SharePoint Conference on records management and eDiscovery. I will make my deck that I used available later this week, however while I was at Las Vegas one of the whitepapers that I worked on was made available on the Mimosa Website. You can actually download the whitepaper on this link.

There, I said it. Its a mouth full and the first few times you might stumble over it, but this is a very important thing that many SharePoint admins forget about.
The problem case is that SharePoint data is different than other data, it isn’t stale, it aren’t just fixed blobs. Many vendors take the shortcut and treat it that way as that has been working for them with other applications.

On December 17th, 2008, Mimosa hosted their 1st Exchange MVP/Expert Tech Chat on Exchange Server Issues.
This technical chat was open to anyone and questions were answered by Pat Richard, Steve Bryant, Martin Tuip, and myself (Jason Sherry).
All four of us were Exchange MVPs in 2008 and have been working with Exchange since the pre-Exchange days so we know how hard it is to get some questions answered, so we agreed this was a great event to help the community.
