Exchange 2010 Archiving Capability

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Exchange 2010 is the next version of Exchange Server and it is due for release the end of 2009 or early 2010.  Exchange 2010 includes many new features and enhancements for archiving.

Customer have asked me if Exchange 2010 will have all the features they require for email archiving.  I have reviewed the new features of Exchange 2010 and compared them to what I feel are basic requirements for a enterprise archiving solution, and I identified three key areas where Exchange 2010 falls a bit short.

The New Age of Regulatory Compliance

Friday, June 12th, 2009

The new administration in Washington DC has signaled that compliance with industry regulatory requirements will be a top priority in the coming months. How does your company prepare for the upcoming, but still unknown requirements?

The first thing you should do is understand where you are lacking when it comes to corporate best practices, especially around corporate data and retention. Do you have a retention policy and schedule? Have you updated it lately? Have employees been trained on it – regularly?

Is SharePoint the Next Big Thing in Archiving?

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

We all know that email archiving and file archiving are extremely important because of the storage cost savings, eDiscovery savings, and backup and recovery efficiencies they deliver.  Email archiving came onto the scene in the 1990s as email became a very common communication mechanism, but really took off in the last 5 years due to compliance and eDiscovery concerns.  File archiving is in the midst of taking off within the past year or two as organizations realize what a risk all of that unmanaged content poses from several perspectives – eDiscovery, data loss prevention, compliance, privacy, and security.

Mimosa Exchange Expert chat log posted

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

On December 17th, 2008, Mimosa hosted their 1st Exchange MVP/Expert Tech Chat on Exchange Server Issues.

This technical chat was open to anyone and questions were answered by Pat Richard, Steve Bryant, Martin Tuip, and myself (Jason Sherry).

All four of us were Exchange MVPs in 2008 and have been working with Exchange since the pre-Exchange days so we know how hard it is to get some questions answered, so we agreed this was a great event to help the community.
