The Advantages of SharePoint Recovery with Mimosa
When talking about SharePoint recovery you need to understand that there are multiple levels of recovery. For example, bulk or coarse-grained recovery, that is quite different from item, or fine-grained recovery.
Bulk SharePoint recovery is quite common and is provided by the leading backup products, including Microsoft’s DPM and NTBackup. But, item level SharePoint restore is another matter to consider.
What’s not easy with SharePoint item level restore is recovering an individual item with full integrity. What I’m referring to here are things like custom Meta data, information management policy Meta data, version history, workflow associations and history, etc.
Additionally, the ability to support this across a variety of content types (i.e. not just documents from document libraries) is important too. I’m talking about things like: Folders, Blog Sites, Discussion Boards, etc.
The Mimosa Systems SharePoint Archiving (SPA) solution captures all SharePoint data including lists, site level, and all levels up to a complete SharePoint Farm.
When performing recovery of a list or site, Mimosa SPA takes into account the template, navigation options, theme, solutions and features, and other inheritance or customization.
So in a sense, Mimosa SPA is defining a new standard for fine-grained recovery. We’re going beyond simply recovering the individual items by:
a) Including higher level elements in the definition of fine-grained (i.e. a site)
b) Making sure that the full Meta data, associated context, customizations, and look and feel are all recovered with fidelity as well.
These additional things you can think of as existing “around” the content, but are quite important to have if you want a more complete recovery solution.
