What is so important about ‘shadowless’ archiving?
Two months ago Mimosa Systems announced that it further integrated with NetApp’s storage and data management solutions. This was an important announcement as Mimosa NearPoint is actually the only archiving product that offers multiple methods to ingest data for archiving from Exchange. Not only logshipping, but Journaling and now shadowless archiving.
With shadowless archiving, the Mimosa NearPoint archive leverages NetApp’s Snapshot™ technology as the source for archived data and the compliant archival of data capture for all Exchange database transactions and events. This includes all email, moves, message deletes, calendar items and contacts. In addition, customers can simplify application data management leveraging NetApp’s SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange, which automates complex, manual, and time-consuming processes associated with the backup, recovery, and verification of Exchange Server databases while eliminating the need to implement Exchange Journaling.
In fact .. you can now do full archiving without even touching your Exchange environment entirely. In addition to the new integration with NetApp SnapManager for Exchange, Mimosa NearPoint also offers comprehensive integration with several other NetApp technologies, including NetApp SnapManager® for SQL Server, SnapDrive®, SnapMirror®, and FlexVol®. The integration leverages NetApp’s cascading Snapshot technology for archived data protection, resulting in a combined solution that features a storage footprint that is smaller to deploy, faster to recover and lower in overall management costs.
The NetApp-Mimosa solution also centralizes the management of disaster recovery and retention policies so IT organizations can assure compliance with corporate governance and regulatory mandates while streamlining overall storage management processes for user generated content including email, calendar information, IMs and files. Ultimately, this reduces overall management costs while increasing IT administration staff productivity.
First Generation archiving vendors stick with only offering MAPI/Journal based archiving while Mimosa NearPoint offers multiple ingestion methods allowing customers to choose what is the most efficient method for archiving and data protection in their environment.
