This highly inconviences many email users and email management companies. Spam mail refers to anything unsolicited by the user including bulk mail and junk mail. These emails typically appear in the recipient’s inbox, though a good email filter will send the majority of those emails to the bulk mail folder or spam folder. Anytime a user posts their email address online, it’s an invitation to spammers to use it for their own means. There are many companies online that sell email addresses or lists as well. They compile email addresses posted around the internet and sell those lists to individuals and companies. Many times these emails are sent about a new product or service that the company needs new customers for. In other cases though, these spammers are sending out computer viruses, adware and spyware. As soon as the recipient clicks a link or downloads a program, it sets itself up on the computer. That explains why it’s so important to report spammers. Spam should be reported to the ISP, or Internet Service Provider. This is the company that provides the internet for the individual such as Comcast, Insight Media or Time Warner Cable. Each company has a contact form or email address on their website for users to contact them about issues. Individuals should look for the email address associated with problems or technical support. Also when sending a spammer report, it’s helpful to include copies of the emails the user’s reporting. Another way to report a spammer to an ISP is by using their customer support hotline. Every ISP has its own toll free phone number. A good way to find this number is by checking bills from previous months. Those who don’t receive a bill can check the Contact Us page on their website to find the phone number. Spammers can also be reported through the regular mail. The best way to find the way to contact the ISP is by looking at their Contact Us page: When reporting a spammer, the customer should include the problem, the email address of the spammer and copies of the emails they’ve sent. If there’s more than one spammer causing a problem, each one should be reported separately. This ensures that each one is handled carefully on its own merits. It’s also important to report the problem as soon as possible. This gives the ISP more time to respond and they have a better chance of catching the spammer. Spammers typically disappear quickly and setup under a new email address, which makes them difficult to catch.
